Benefits of Microneedling with RF
Microneedling with radiofrequency (RF), combines two technologies that can help with acne scars, pore size, and tightening of the skin.
Dr. Paul Friedman, a board-certified dermatologist from Houston, says, "We're finding new applications, such as treatments of acne scarring and some tightening along the jawline and the neck area. We have a lot of patients who want to take the initial steps towards slowing down the aging process, and we're finding that they've been very excited with the results."
How Microneedling Works
The procedure works by delivering RF(radio frequency) energy to the dermis through tiny, sterile needles to precise locations and depths. The RF energy heats the underlying layers of skin, without disturbing the outer layer. This process stimulates collagen and elastin causing the skin to contract and tighten.
For All Skin Types
The value of microneedling with RF says Friedman, is our ability to use it on all skin types. It doesn't injure the delicate melanocytes that are concentrated at the junction between the dermis and epidermis, making it a promising procedure for skin of color.
What to Expect
The best part is there's really no downtime, and the procedure includes a topical numbing cream for added comfort and takes less than an hour.
"Generally, we're doing about three treatment sessions. We space them out in monthly intervals, and we're finding that after about the second treatment, patients start coming back to us and talking about the compliments they're receiving," says Friedman.
Melasma and Acne Scarring
Radiofrequency microneedling may also help lessen the severity of melasma, which can be a hormone-related pigmentation problem.
Friedman states, "We also see an overall improvement of the skin tone and quality for patients who have acne scarring. For some of the patients with more stubborn acne, they see improvement in their texture and their pore size, and they're excited to complete the treatment series.
If you suffer from acne scars or have other texture problems with your skin, RF microneedling may be the treatment you need to get your glowing complexion back.
